panic attacks treatment
acks are the most extreme manifestation of panic disorder, an anxiety response resulting from an over-production and under-use of adrenalin, the bodily chemical which cause them. When the anxiety reaction has no use for adrenalin, this powerful hormone can create a group of physical reactions which can peak with the formation of a panic attack. This response is natural and physical – it has nothing to do with mental or physical illness or chemical imbalances, but it can feel very threatening indeed.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy helps people learn to deal with panic symptoms, using techniques like muscle and breathing relaxation. They also gain reassurance that panic will not lead to the catastrophic events they fear, since many people fear they are having a heart attack.

There are many reasons why people have panic attacks. They are often triggered by a specific situation that causes you fear. Some people don’t like crowds. Others experience panic attacks when they know they’ll have to speak in public. It could be anything. It is important that you recognize what triggers your panic attacks and do what you can to reduce or remove these triggers. For example, if your panic attacks are brought on by crowds, you may be able to successfully stop panic attacks by avoiding crowds. You may be able to stop panic attacks by gradually making yourself more comfortable in small groups then larger groups and so on.

Once someone has had a panic attack, for example, while driving, shopping in a crowded store, or riding in an elevator, he or she may develop irrational fears, called phobias, about these situations and begin to avoid them. Eventually, the pattern of avoidance and level of anxiety about another attack may reach the point where the mere idea of doing things that preceded the first panic attack triggers future panic attacks, resulting in the individual with panic disorder being unable to drive or even step out of the house. At this stage, the person is said to have panic disorder with agoraphobia. Thus, there are two types of panic disorder: panic disorder with or without agoraphobia. Like other major illnesses, panic disorder can have a serious impact on a person’s daily life unless the individual receives effective treatment.

Then, with gentle reassurance, progressively tense and relax all the large muscle groups. Tighten your left leg with a deep breath in, for example, hold it, then release the leg muscles and the breath. Move on to the other leg. Move up the body, one muscle group at a time.

Most panic attack sufferers find that some of the best treatment can be found with a panic attack support group. For a panic attack sufferer these support groups can be an extremely valuable resource. Most panic sufferers tend to feel very alone during their panic attacks, even when they have others to talk to. There is something about knowing that there are others out there that experience the same feelings, it can be very reassuring to most chronic panic sufferers.

Before you begin any form of treatment, your GP will discuss all of your options with you, outlining the advantages of each form of treatment, while also making you aware of any possible risks, or side effects. This is because no single treatment is best for everyone, and which treatment is recommended will depend on your general health and the severity of your condition, as well as your personal preferences.

anxiety treatment
It is a sad truth that many people these days suffer from anxiety. It’s not really certain why people are suffering from this condition but they are and you may be one of them. Often people who suffer from this do not look for anxiety treatments straight away to help them because they do not know that this is their problem. Often they can go through this for a long period and then they go to the doctors and find out they are actually having anxiety attacks.

Once they have been diagnosed with this the doctor will look for anxiety treatments that will suit them personally. Sadly this is most likely in the form of anti depressants. For many people this is a perfect solution. But for many others it is not the best solution. For one thing these anti depressants are drugs and not all people like to and can cope with this form of help.

If your doctor is good at his or her job he or she will look deeply into your life and try to help you work out what may be triggering these onsets. They then should consult with you with what may help you cope appropriately. If drugs will not suit you for whatever reason then look for other alternatives. Some of these may include meditation to help you relax when you feel an attack coming on. This is a very natural relaxing way of keeping yourself calm and controlling your breathing.

Obviously you may not always be in a position to go and meditate whenever you feel the need to but learning this art will help you in the long run to keep a healthy body and mind. It’s worth a try. Many people also choose to use alternative medicines instead of the usual prescribed drugs. Learning the signs of when an attack is coming on is also very helpful as you then can put some of these things into practice before it gets out of hand.

The old breathe into a paper bag trick can of course still be useful when you are finding you cannot breathe. Anything that works at the time is always helpful. But really you need to find out why this is happening and try to relieve some of the stresses in your life. This may lower the need for ongoing medication.

Remember that there are many anxiety treatments available out there and you need to find the best one to suit you. But also remember as I said before maybe your symptoms can be lowered if not cured if you change your lifestyle by living in a less stressful environment and learning relaxation techniques that can be used in your daily routine.

anxiety treatment
Shop around! If you have a friend who has sought therapy, ask him/her for a referral. Even if your friend’s therapist isn’t available, you can ask the therapist for a recommendation to another therapist. You can also check out the phone book or online (under “psychologists”, “counselors” or “mental health”) for therapists in your area.

Ask about cognitive-behavioral therapy. Look for a therapist who does “cognitive-behavioral” therapy (CBT). There are many types of therapy, but CBT has been shown to have very good results for the treatment of anxiety, and the results of CBT treatment tend to be longer term than the use of medication alone. CBT helps you to identify and change the thoughts and behaviors that cause you to feel anxious, and it also typically contains an element called “exposure” that helps you to systematically cope with the sources of your anxiety.

Know your insurance coverage. Find out if your insurance covers your treatment. You can do this by calling your insurance company or your potential therapist. If your insurance doesn’t cover therapy, ask if the potential therapist offers an abated fee (adjusted to your income). For other low cost options, you might also look for psychological services provided by graduate students at a local university or through a community mental health center.

Make sure the therapist is licensed. You might be confused by all of the different titles and degrees that therapists hold. A therapist can have a Ph.D., Psy.D., M.D., LCSW, or other degree. As long as the therapist is licensed by the state to provide psychotherapy and is knowledgeable about CBT treatment for anxiety (see above), the degree is less-important. There is one exception to the requirement to be licensed. In some cases, especially at university-based centers, your therapist may not yet be licensed. This is an acceptable practice as long as the therapist is supervised by a licensed provider.

Ask questions and find a good fit. When you talk to the potential therapist, either by phone or in person, it is appropriate for you to ask questions. You want to make sure that you feel comfortable with the therapist. In the same way that you probably try on a shoe before you buy it, you should find a therapist whom you trust and with whom you feel comfortable. You should feel a basic level of trust in the therapist within the first few meetings. If not, do not take this as a reflection of you or the therapist. Rather, you should discuss your concerns with the therapist so that adjustments can be made within the therapy and your relationship to help you feel comfortable.

treating anxiety

Treating anxiety attacks or panic attacks as they are also known has become a huge industry spearheaded by drug companies mainly for a good reason; approximately 18% of adult Americans suffer from some sort of anxiety disorder.

Millions of people suffer from disorders associated with fear including: OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), SAD (Social Anxiety Disorder), PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Panic Disorder, GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) and a whole host of specific phobias. With such a large number of people the drug companies have developed medication that can suppress the symptoms of these disorders but do nothing to solve the underlying causes of said disorders. Therapists also love people coming back again and again for more paid sessions that may help some but do not empower the sufferer to really overcome their problems; I cannot say anything nice about hypnotherapists who do nothing in treating anxiety attacks and who I believe are just charlatans offering what seems to be a quick and easy fix to desperate people who believe that these questionable methods really yield any actual results … but I digress.

So what is the important missing piece in this puzzle that will allow those afflicted by anxiety disorders to fix their crippling fear and panic? The answer … YOU! If you suffer from anxiety attacks the only person who can truly take control of their problems and overcome is yourself which is why more people find solutions in the self help market when treating anxiety attacks they can empower themselves for a permanent improvement to their lives.

If you really want to beat your disorder do not expect that treating anxiety attacks without significant input from yourself will yield any real answers. Instead look to those who have beaten it before and offer the right advice that can give you the motivation and methods to understand your issues and exactly how to deal with them!

So if you want the knowledge and power to leave crippling fear behind and start living life at 100% click below to find how you can treat your anxiety attacks yourself.
