Being a caregiver for someone suffering from panic attacks is generally not nearly as involved as being a caregiver for someone with a terminal illnesse, but that doesn’t mean that it is a stress free job as you want to help them maintain maximum independence and learn panic self help. The United States Department of Health and Human Services on their Women’s Health Page (http://www.womenshealth.gov) has come up with these tips for caregivers, and remember, a care giver is not only a spouse, but anyone who provides help to someone needing it.

Are you a Caregiver in Need of Care? Part 1
Do You Know a Good Therapist?
Many people will need help to overcome their anxiety. They will need an outside perspective and someone who can explain to them what is going on behind the scenes if you will when it come to what is the cause of their anxiety. The person most able to do that though will not be a doctor, spouse, or friend though. Those people can be supportive and a source of stability but most likely the person that will help the most will the therapist. Having one is great, but a person has to go through the process of finding the therapist that works best for them.
Is that Panic Attack a Symptom of Something Larger?
While panic attacks have many symptoms, sometimes the panic attacks themselves are just a symptom of something larger that is going on inside the body. Some problems that are believed to display panic attacks as a symptom are hypoglycemia, hyperthyroidism, labrinthitis, post-traumatic stress disorder, and pheochromocytoma. In addition to these, there is evidence that panic disorders may be hereditary and co-existant with bipolar disorder. A hereditary condition is not a given however and many people develop panic disorders through substance abuse, weight problems, or depression.
